Manx-Universe

Michel Roux Jr

Meet Caitlin and Chess! University students who have really thought outside the box when it came to overcoming a quite important problem over the coronavirus period. The pair realised that due to travel restrictions, current sixth form students aspiring to go to onto further education would be unable to visit universities and get a feel of what it might be like to go there or ask questions to knowledgeable staff and students. The solution? Manx-Universe!

The scheme, based on Facebook, has brought together current Manx university students, from all years and courses, in touch with A-level or equivalent students who need a bit of advice on all aspects of university life. Caitlin and Chess each post regular interviews with a handful of students on specific courses as well as giving tips and tricks on how to best tackle the daunting student life. From the most student friendly recipes to very down to earth mental health advice, the duo cover it all!

Not only have they created this fab group, but Chess and Caitlin also helped organise the University and Higher Education fair back in July that all year 12 students attended. This brought representative students from more than 50 universities/collages into one place, replacing what would normally be staff reps (who for obvious reasons couldn’t come over to be there).

We think they have done a fantastic job at bringing students together and giving each other a helping hand in what has been a very uncertain time. They definitely are Extraordinary Islanders!! WELL DONE GUYS
